What Can Volunteering at the Y Do For You?
YMCA volunteers of all ages are provided with opportunities to share their talents, while learning new skills and developing meaningful relationships.
What Will Volunteering at the Y Do For Others?
Volunteers are the backbone of the Santa Anita Family YMCA and are immensely valuable members of our Y family. More than 160,000 people visited our YMCA last year, allowing us to help them grow more fully in Spirit, Mind and Body. Our volunteers make this important work a reality everyday.

Why Give to the Santa Anita Family YMCA?
Behind the Y-shaped signs and the swimming pools, the Santa Anita Family YMCA is actively at work in our community providing care, strengthening ties and offering hope. The Santa Anita Family has a 100-year history of responding to community needs with programs that strengthen and enrich the mental, physical, and spiritual well-being of all people. Today's YMCA reaches more than 10,000 children, adults, seniors and families through its dozens of programs. Charitable donations to the YMCA make a positive and profound impact on individuals, families, and entire communities. You can put your gift to work through the YMCA annual or endowment funds.

2008 Annual Community Support Campaign
The 2008 Community Support Campaign serves many purposes. It is a means to:
- Raise funds to cover program costs to children and families who cannot afford our programs.
- Provide program subsidies and community outreach services to lower-income, underserved populations.
- Create greater understanding within the community of the total scope and impact of YMCA programs.
MAKING STRIDES
The annual YMCA Current Support Campaign allows us to keep making strides forward, in the lives of hundreds of underserved kids in our community. Your support will assure that no child is denied a chance to participate in YMCA programs or activities due to inability to pay.
Every dollar donated to the YMCA Current Support Campaign helps kids right here in our community by providing program support and financial assistance to kids and families who need it most.
Your gift of $12/month improves the life of one child by providing a youth membership to the YMCA.
THE PATH TO A STRONGER COMMUNITY
The impact we have on children will be our legacy. With every opportunity we give a child in need, we increase the likelihood that child will ultimately achieve success in his or her life. With your help, we can give more kids more opportunities for positive growth.
Your gift of $30/month enables one child to participate in three different YMCA youth sports during one year.

In 2007, your YMCA provided over $122,000 in direct program subsidies and financial assistance, with monetary support available for community members who were unable to afford program fees. Very often, those who will benefit most from YMCA programs are those least able to afford them. In short, the Community Support Campaign is what ensures that the YMCA's programs will always be open to all people.

One special part of the Annual Community Support Campaign is that it is almost completely run by YMCA volunteers. Each year, hundreds of volunteers join in to raise funds for the Campaign. Endowment
A charitable gift to the YMCA's Endowment Fund puts your money to work - for you and the people we serve.
The goal of the YMCA's endowment program is to create an endowment fund of sufficient size to produce a portion of the Association's annual program funding requirements. In supporting this effort, YMCA friends like you will help to ensure a strong, viable YMCA for the youth of future generations.
Depending on your situation, a "planned gift" can increase your current income or the value of your estate for your heirs. Planned gifts also qualify donors for membership in our Heritage Club-a giving society that is committed to providing for the future.
YMCA Heritage Club
The Santa Anita Family YMCA Heritage Club is made up of individuals who have felt and seen the impact of the YMCA in their lives and the lives of others. This planned giving is a means to achieving and perpetuating the work and the mission of the Santa Anita Family YMCA. It provides an opportunity for us to see our wishes carried out well beyond our lifetimes.
By joining the Heritage Club (through a bequest, life insurance gift, trust, annuity or other means), you make the strongest statement of support to the mission of the YMCA.
Strong communities uphold the ethic of "giving back" according to their unique circumstances and abilities. If you share the YMCAs beliefs, you can help secure the future of our communitys youth and families. Together, you and others can help create a more promising future.

Giving a Gift via Stock
Donating through stock often provides substantial tax savings for a donor. A donation of appreciated securities can provide tax advantages to the donor and at the same time be a sizeable contribution to the Y.
When you transfer securities directly to the YMCA, your tax deduction is the value of the shares the day they are transferred. In other words, you deduct all the appreciation the stock has experienced along with its original cost, even though the deduction is a lot more than you paid for the shares. As a result, the gift's real cost to you may be surprisingly low.
If you have already decided to donate to the Santa Anita Family YMCA via stock, you need to let us know by sending us a donated securities form via fax or mail. This allows us to know you will be donating stock and where you would like the donation to be directed. Click here to view the form that you can then print.
Matching Gifts
Your contribution to the Santa Anita Family YMCA can go twice as far! Did you know hundreds of local companies match their employees' charitable contributions?!? When making a gift to the YMCA, check with your employer's Human Resources Department to determine if your company will match your donation.
For more information, to request the forms, or to send your completed form please contact:

The Tax Benefits of Giving
Making a gift to the YMCA can help you lower your current taxes, and make it easier to keep track of your charitable activities for tax-filing purposes. A 100% federal tax deduction is available for each charitable contribution a donor makes to the YMCA.
Deductions can be up to 50% of personal income for cash gifts and 30% of personal income for appreciated property at 100% fair market value. When you donate appreciated securities, you'll avoid paying capital gains taxes. The contributions you make will be removed from your estate, and, therefore, will not be subject to estate taxes. Individuals may donate appreciated property without the risk of triggering the federal alternative minimum tax (AMT). Donors can avoid estate, income and generation skipping transfer taxes by making gifts of IRD assets (income in respect of the decedent). IRD assets can include IRAs, employee benefit plans, distributions, accrued interest on U.S. savings bonds and certificates of deposit.
